An Installation in Public Space

GATE does not mark a boundary, it overcomes one. On the surface, this gate is a medium without a message, a transition without destination, a reduction to pure movement, to opening and closing. Yet GATE reflects one’s own perception and becomes the basis of one’s own narrative.

GATE is an artistic installation in public space. An automatic glass sliding door stands alone and freestanding in the landscape. The automatic sliding door opens contactlessly upon approach. What is entered is not a space in the classical sense, but a transitional zone, neither beginning nor end.

GATE creates a situation of in-betweenness, in which movement and stillness, approach and distance are equally present. Visitors decide for themselves how to engage with it, whether to pass through the door, linger in front of it, or walk around it.

With its reflective glass surfaces, GATE incorporates the surrounding landscape and visitors in equal measure. What becomes visible through the opening appears framed, the same view, suddenly perceived differently. Landscape becomes image, one’s own presence becomes part of the situation and of the experience itself.

GATE opens an experiential space between inside and outside, between proximity and distance, between cultural space and nature. An everyday object unsettles in an unfamiliar context and shifts attention from the functional toward the experiential. In an age of permanently technologized perception, the installation relies on reduction: on presence instead of explanation, on experience instead of instruction.

GATE opens a space that reveals itself only in the moment of immediate encounter.

GATE markiert keine Grenze, sondern überwindet sie. Vordergründig ist dieses Tor ein Medium ohne Botschaft, ein Übergang ohne Ziel, eine Reduktion auf die reine Bewegung, auf Öffnen und Schließen. Doch GATE spiegelt die eigene Wahrnehmung und wird zur Basis der eigenen Erzählung.

GATE ist eine künstlerische Installation im öffentlichen Raum. Eine automatische Glasschiebetür steht freistehend und alleine in der Landschaft. Die automatische Schiebetür öffnet sich kontaktlos bei Annäherung. Was betreten wird, ist kein Raum im klassischen Sinn, sondern ein Übergangsbereich, weder Anfang noch Ende.

GATE erzeugt eine Situation des Dazwischen, in der Bewegung und Stillstand, Annäherung und Abstand gleichermaßen präsent sind. Besucher:innen können selbst entscheiden, wie sie damit umgehen, ob sie die Tür durchschreiten, davor verweilen oder sie umgehen.

GATE mit seinen spiegelnden Glasflächen bezieht Umgebung und Besucher:innen zu gleichen Teilen ein. Was durch die Öffnung sichtbar wird, erscheint wie gerahmt, derselbe Ausschnitt, plötzlich anders wahrgenommen. Landschaft wird zum Bild, die eigene Präsenz wird Teil der Situation und des eigenen Erlebens.

GATE öffnet einen Erfahrungsraum zwischen Innen und Außen, zwischen Nähe und Distanz, zwischen Kulturraum und Natur. Ein alltägliches Objekt irritiert in ungewohntem Kontext und verschiebt den Blick vom Zweckhaften ins Erfahrbare. In einer Zeit permanenter technisierter Wahrnehmung setzt die Installation auf Reduktion: auf Präsenz statt Erklärung, auf Erleben statt Instruktion.

GATE öffnet einen Raum, der sich nur im Moment der unmittelbaren Begegnung erschließt.
