Paradise Placement is an interactive video installation that consists of a video projection and two small video cameras installed in the exhibition space. An endless loop of a video is projected, showing a small and empty greenhouse on a river bank. You see vegetative and urban elements in a cloudy and rainy environment. Two small webcams are filming the exhibition including visitors from two different perspectives. The live video material from the two cameras will be keyed into the glass surfaces of the greenhouse from two different sides as a reflection in real time.

Visitors and their surrounding are reflected in the glass fronts of the greenhouse. It is a reflection without actually being on site. Neither inside nor outside. Paradise Placement plays with the perception and self-perception of the viewer. In this video installation, the questions of reality, of existence and appearance lead to a reduction of the real to a reflection on the surface. Paradise Placement asks about the position of the individual in a fleeting, medialized world of staging.

Who is outside, who is inside? Is there an outside and an inside at all in the postdigital age, and if so, how relevant and how permeable are borders and transitions? And does the greenhouse really protect us? Not only from the rain…

Paradise Placement ist eine interaktive Videoinstallation, die aus einer Videoprojektion und zwei kleinen im Ausstellungsraum angebrachten Videokameras besteht. Projiziert wird ein Endlosloop eines Videos, das ein kleines leeres Gewächshaus an einem Flussufer zeigt. Im Bild sind vegetative und urbane Elemente zu sehen, es regnet und ein Gewitter zieht auf. Zwei kleine Webcams im Ausstellungsraum filmen die Ausstellung inklusive Besucher aus zwei unterschiedlichen Perspektiven.

Das Live-Videomaterial der beiden Kameras wird als Spiegelung in Echtzeit in die Glasflächen des Glashauses von 2 Seiten eingekeyt. Somit spiegeln sich Besucher und Exponate der Ausstellung in den Glasfronten des Gewächshauses. Es entsteht eine Spiegelung ohne tatsächlich vor Ort zu sein. Weder drinnen noch draußen. Paradise Placement spielt mit Wahrnehmung und Selbstwahrnehmung der BetrachterInnen. Die Frage nach Realität, nach Sein und Schein führt in dieser Installation zu einer Reduktion des Realen auf eine Spiegelung an der Oberfläche. Paradise Placement fragt nach der Position des Einzelnen in einer flüchtigen, medialisierten Welt der Inszenierung.

Wer ist draußen, wer ist drinnen? Gibt es im postdigitalen Zeitalter überhaupt ein Äußeres und ein Inneres, und wenn ja, wie relevant und durchlässig sind Grenzen und Übergänge? Und schützt uns das Gewächshaus wirklich? Nicht nur vor dem Regen…
